Facilities

West Footscray is located at the western end of the Geelong Road overpass and between Sunshine Road and Cross Street, with station access from the latter two.

The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large brick building, while platform 2 has a smaller brick building. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. Myki ticket vending machines are also located at the entrances to platform 1 & platform 2.

A footbridge and a disused signal box are located at the Flinders Street end of the station, whist a disused goods shed is located next to the entrance to platform 2. Two dual gauge tracks run beside the station forming the South Kensington - West Footscray goods lines, linking the Port of Melbourne and other freight terminals to the rest of the state. The tracks also form part of the Melbourne to Sydney standard gauge line.

History

West Footscray Station opened on 1 October 1888 as Footscray West. It was renamed West Footscray in 1912.[1] The station buildings were reconstructed in 1976.[2]
